We just posted the video for ‘A Cold Freezin’ Night’.

We’re good kids, really.
On our thrift store runs, mostly during our tours of 2006 and 2007, we found a lot of summer camp videos. I digitized and sampled about 25 of them, and Paul did a bunch, too. The universal themes of summer camp videos are (as far as we can tell): Water-sports, Pie fights, Girls vs. Boys, The Opposite of Girls vs. Boys, Camp Propoganda, Archery and Guns, Mud, Being Suspended From Ropes, Frogs, Marshmallows-On-Fire, Screaming Yelling and Dancing, Wrestling and Fake Fighting, Horses, Making Beds, Belly Flops, and Tearful Goodbyes. Pool Care, Lawn Care and Doll Care videos also figure well into this mix.
As I was finishing up the audio, Paul dove into the editing, choosing the best moments from the video library, and finding a multitude of interesting ways to fracture the video rhythmically (which he did ‘manually’ by cutting and placing single frames (we use Vegas as our editor for the most part)). Meanwhile, I wrote out the entire text with my left hand (i’m usually a righty), and had my wife draw some rainbows and stuff, scanned them and aligned them with the track.
Originally we made it for our live show, where it seemed important to bolster the samples with text on the screen, so that the crazy dialogue wouldn’t be lost to the people in the back. You’ll see our performance of this track if you come to our shows in the fall.
Also, Jeremy just gave us the vinyl version of the record last night at dinner. The rainbow splatter vinyl is awesome! really worth having… only the first 500 copies are processed in this special way so….
